How City Flow Brought Accountability and Peace of Mind to their Cleaning Practice
City Flow Building Maintenance is a cleaning organization based in Calgary, AB, Canada, who prides themselves on their ability to provide the highest quality services in the region. They are designed to compete with any sized competitor, large or small, across a variety of facility types, including entertainment, office, and retail. City Flow was founded in 2019 by Ben Gardecki, who had experience in sales in the commercial cleaning industry and set out to start his own organization to provide a higher level of service himself.
City Flow had challenges with subcontractors who claimed that work was being completed, but had clients that did not see the same results. This “he said, she said” eventually lead to a client ending services with City Flow, and Ben knew he had to act. These were contractors that he thought were the “shining stars” of his operation, but the client concerns created questions for Ben that he couldn’t get past.
It was clear that Ben needed a form of cleaning verification to ensure that staff were arriving to site when they were expected to, and were spending the requisite time to complete cleaning tasks. City Flow had tried QR codes and barcoding systems in the past, to little avail, since they required cellular data and a mobile phone. Many of the cleaning staff he subcontracted out to were using their own personal device, and providing every staff member a mobile device was cost-prohibitive. Finally, enforcing QR code scanning was a challenge due to staff forgetting or even finding nefarious ways around the QR code system.
In Ben’s words: “Mero takes all of the effort out. It’s simple, and can benefit almost every cleaning company.” City Flow was able to cut ties with any subcontractors that were not performing and replace them with high-performing staff, improving his service offering. Not only did Ben receive an improved service offering, but he also was able to pass on value to his clients, leading to contract retention and renewal. Using actual cleaning times from Mero, he was able to reduce hours for his staff and adjust his strategies based on real-life metrics.
City Flow continues to implement Mero across all of their key client sites, using it as a strategic competitive advantage over his counterparts. He sees it as a way that he can compete and grow his business and compete against even the largest cleaning organizations in the industry.
